The Corsettes are a burlesque, cabaret, dance, and comedy troupe based in New Jersey. Our performances incorporate many different eras and styles of music, from rock to showtunes to jazz, and we write our own scripts. We are currently looking to cast two female principal roles for our upcoming shows. To date, all of our shows have been sold out. We are still new, and we are looking to expand our horizons.

Roles

Emcee-Announcer/Ringleader

Female, age 20 to 50. Speaking and improv role, moves the show along, interacts with audience, makes announcements, and introduces numbers. Must have big personality, clear speaking voice, and very strong improvisational skills. Singing ability and some dancing ability not required but are both a big plus. This role does not require any stripping and has minimal costume changes.

Corsette (character name to be determined)

Female, age 20 to 50. Burlesque dancer, actress, and singer. Vocal performance experience required, dance ability required, theater experience a plus. Some improvisation ability also helpful. Must be comfortable stripping to panties and pasties. Character personality and name to be determined. We are not looking for any specific body types—all shapes and sizes are welcome. Comfort in your own skin and confidence are key.

If you are auditioning for the Emcee role:

• You will be asked to read from our script
• If you can sing, please bring a song to perform

If you are auditioning for the Corsette role, you MUST come prepared with the following:

• At least one song to show off your vocal range and ability
• A choreographed striptease which incorporates at least a partial strip

We will have a CD player and speakers for your MP3 player, so you can bring music to dance to and/or a karaoke track to sing to. You should also have some basic ideas for the type of character you'd like to play, as well as ideas for a burlesque name.

For either role, if you have any special talents, please come prepared to demonstrate, i.e. juggling, hula hoop, magic, sword swallowing, etc.

Responsibilities

All cast is expected to attend approximately three rehearsals per month, usually two weekend rehearsals and a weeknight rehearsal. These rehearsals will vary in length. Depending on the show date and the frequency of individual practice, there may be less rehearsals required on any given month. Rehearsals are focused mostly on group work, so all cast members are expected to practice solo and group numbers extensively on their own.

Costuming will be the responsibility of the individual cast member in most cases, though some pieces may be borrowed from The Corsettes or other cast members as needed.

Performances will be held in a variety of NJ venues (and possibly surrounding metropolitan areas). Frequency of shows will depend on venue availability as well as individual schedules.
